On June 6, the “Focus on Shanghai Intelligent Manufacturing, Win the Industrial Future Together” special event series and the Future Space session of the promotion conference for the 2024 Global “Future Industry Star” Competition were successfully held. The event was guided by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, organized by the Shanghai Industrial Technology Innovation Promotion Association and the Shanghai Enterprise Technology Center Innovation Alliance, and hosted by the Dredging National Engineering Research Center together with the Shanghai branch of Hua Xia Bank. Ju Xinyu, deputy director of the Technology Progress Division of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, Zhang Qingbo, the company’s Party secretary and chief engineer, and Mei Zhineng, deputy Party secretary and general manager, attended the event.

Ju Xinyu noted that future industries are an important carrier and typical embodiment of new quality productive forces. In 2022 Shanghai released its Action Plan for Building a Future Industry Innovation Hub and Growing Future Industry Clusters, firing the first shot nationwide in the race to position for future industries. In January of this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and six other departments issued the Implementation Opinions on Promoting the Innovative Development of Future Industries, setting off a nationwide wave of future industry development. Drawing on its strengths in scientific and technological innovation, talent and finance, Shanghai is holding the Global “Future Industry Star” Competition to identify and support future industry projects and talent. She expressed the hope that enterprises in the future space industry would use the competition as an opportunity to surface high-quality projects and talent, to build strength by finding and attracting supply-chain partners and thereby consolidating and strengthening the industrial chain, and to promote innovation, jointly building Shanghai’s modern industrial system.

Mei Zhineng said that since Shanghai released its future industry action plan in September 2022, the top-level design has been steadily refined and notable results have been achieved. CCCC Group has deep strength in marine engineering technology and equipment and in marine industries. To further deepen the strategic cooperation between CCCC Group and the city of Shanghai, the group has designated the Dredging National Engineering Research Center to take the lead in concentrating resources to build a science and technology innovation platform in the deep-sea exploration and mining field of the future space industry, carry out technology research and equipment development, build a future industry cluster, and actively participate in the development of Shanghai’s future industries.

In the segment introducing the overall development of the future space industry, Hong Guojun, member of the company’s Party committee and deputy general manager, presented the Dredging National Engineering Research Center’s research progress in deep-sea exploration and mining, explained the connections between dredging and deep-sea mining, and described how the center’s large-scale dredging model test platforms are used to research key deep-sea mining technologies, making it possible to conduct indoor tests of the complete deep-sea mining system at close to prototype scale and to provide a “CCCC solution” for the future deep-sea mining industry.

On March 22, the Shanghai Deep-Sea Exploration and Mining Industry Development White Paper (2024), jointly compiled by CCCC Dredging and the Shanghai Zhongchuang Industry Innovation Research Institute, was officially released. As the lead unit of CCCC Group’s deep and distant sea research and development center, the Dredging National Engineering Research Center is strengthening exchanges and cooperation with high-quality organizations inside and outside the group, concentrating resources on the research and development of key equipment and technologies for deep and distant sea engineering, and contributing solid strength to Shanghai’s pursuit of new industrialization, high-quality development, and a new engine and breakthrough point for high-end manufacturing growth.

The School of Aeronautics and Astronautics of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Urban Transport and Underground Space Institute of the Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design Institute (Group) gave overview presentations on electric aircraft engines and deep underground space respectively. Shanghai Lanjian Hongqing Technology Co., Shanghai Volant Aviation Technology Co., Shanghai CRRC SMD Marine Equipment Co. and Hilong Petroleum Industry Group shared updates on frontier future industry projects. The event also included a review of the 2023 competition, an introduction to the 2024 competition, and a segment on dedicated financial support services for future industries.

Nearly 40 municipal enterprise technology centers and innovative companies connected to the future space industry attended.
