The Green Platform team from The Research Council of Norway, Innovation Norway and SIVA has visited the EMINENT project.
The EMINNET project is mid-way, and we were delighted to welcome the Green Platform team to a site visit sharing project results, plan forward and the experience with the program.
Enable closer collaboration
A benefit of the Green Platform programme is the possibility of funding larger projects, which makes it possible to establish a broader consortium and address larger challenges. A vital benefit of the EMINENT project has been a closer collaboration between geology, biology, technology and mineralogy.
A step-change in parallel data and sample collection has been demonstrated compared to traditional research missions, being more sequential.
Both the industry and research partners of the project see a mutual benefit of working closer together. Each consortium partner plays a unique role and has specific responsibilities. The value of combining expertise and knowledge cannot be overstated in a new industry.
All in all, a great experience
While the EMINENT project is targeting key elements of establishing a value chain for seabed minerals, it’s important to remember that we are still in the early stages of this work. Patience and understanding are key as we continue to make progress.
A single project will not solve all challenges, but the EMINENT project will surely provide key insight and building blocks for the next steps and projects.
The project has applied for additional funding to acquire more samples. The University of Bergen will also collect sensors with critical environmental data, such as current measurements over a year.
