On September 4, 2014, Liu Feng, director of the China Ocean Mineral Resources R&D Association (COMRA), together with division directors Wu Changbin and Liu Yu and Dr. Lin Jinggao, visited the company for a research visit, exchanging views with company leaders and with the senior, mid-career and young researchers engaged in deep-sea mineral resources development research.
General manager Yang Yingliang extended a warm welcome to Director Liu Feng and his delegation, and spoke highly of the achievements of the two major projects under Director Liu’s charge, the Jiaolong 7,000-meter manned submersible and the construction of the National Deep Sea Base. Yang Yingliang said that this is a period of opportunity for the development of deep-sea mining, and that the company and the group corporation would support the development of China’s ocean undertakings with unprecedented intensity, giving strong policy and funding support.
Director Liu Feng expressed heartfelt thanks for the company’s more than twenty years of continuous support for the Association’s work, and listened to the opinions and suggestions of the relevant units and front-line researchers on questions such as how to rationalize the institutional structures and mechanisms of ocean work, how to advance the development of deep-sea mineral resources exploration and development technologies and equipment, and the 13th Five-Year Plan.
Professor Yang Ning, director and chief scientist of the State Key Laboratory, presented the development of the Deep Sea Institute and the laboratory, as well as plans for the next stage of development. Veteran experts Zhong Xiang and Yu Mengdi, along with other professors and young researchers of the Deep Sea Institute, each shared their views on ocean work.
