On April 3, the founding meeting of the China Minmetals Deep-Sea Resources Development Special Committee, held together with a seminar on planning for the deep-sea field, took place at the Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (CRIMM). The meeting was chaired by Li Maolin, chief technology expert of China Minmetals and chairman of the deep-sea special committee.
At the meeting, the Science and Technology Innovation Department of China Minmetals read out the decision to establish the China Minmetals Deep-Sea Resources Development Special Committee. Li Maolin serves as the committee’s chairman, and its membership comprises more than 20 experts from well-known domestic deep-sea research institutes, universities, industry associations, and China Minmetals subsidiaries.
The committee then reported on the results of its key work in 2025 and its work plan for 2026, and gave a dedicated presentation on the feasibility study report for the construction of a China Minmetals deep-sea mineral resources development base, compiled under CRIMM’s leadership. The report systematically maps out a full industry chain development path for China Minmetals covering deep-sea mineral resource exploration, extraction, and comprehensive utilization. Attending delegates held in-depth exchanges and discussions on these items and offered suggestions for refining the committee’s work plan and the base construction plan.
The committee members congratulated the establishment of the special committee and said they would fully participate in its work and play an active role, contributing to the group’s deep-sea resource development.
Committee members, along with representatives of the China Minmetals Science and Technology Innovation Department, CRIMM, and Guochuang Company (a China Minmetals unit), attended the meeting.
