On November 24, a group of six visitors, comprising Zhang Huodai and Sarina of the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey; MD Bazlar Rashid, Gor Gevorgyan, and Marinana Benites, international trainees under the cobalt-rich crust exploration contract; and Guan Yao, a postdoctoral fellow at Sun Yat-sen University, came to Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (CRIMM) for exchanges on the exploration, mining, and smelting of cobalt-rich crusts and polymetallic manganese nodules, and on mineral processing and smelting technology for land-based ores. Zhou Yun, deputy head of the institute’s science and technology development department, and Tang Dasheng, Shen Yujun, and Zeng Xuan of the Marine Institute accompanied the exchanges.
Deputy department head Zhou Yun welcomed the international trainees on behalf of CRIMM and introduced the institute. CRIMM technical staff member Li Qiuhua presented the process of the ore-lifting pump and pipeline sea trial, the process of the deep-sea polymetallic nodule mining test, and the institute’s research achievements in exploration and mining processes, technology, and equipment. Zhang Huodai of the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey gave a detailed introduction of the visitors, and the three international trainees each introduced their respective fields of research.
The international trainees also toured the State Key Laboratory of Deep-Sea Mineral Resources Development and Utilization Technology, the institute’s pyrometallurgical pilot-test workshop, and its mineral processing pilot-test workshop.
The successful holding of this international exchange has raised CRIMM’s international standing in the field of deep-sea mineral resource exploration and further promoted the institute’s engagement with overseas markets.
