Green Iron is the company that, with an innovative technology, wants to produce new metal pellets from metal oxides in residual flows. We have had a collaboration with the company on the nodules for some time. It concerns reduction, that is, the removal of oxides. The earlier tests have been successful and now nodules have also been ground and briquetted in a special process that increases the density by up to three times. At the same time the process ensures that the nodule material can be fully reduced. The advantage lies in a volume gain when handling the nodule material.
We have also begun to collaborate with the materials design division at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology. This concerns creating processes to efficiently make use of as much as possible of the metals present in the nodules. Our skilled metallurgist is project manager and is planning the test processes together with Green Iron and KTH.
We hope that materials testing will begin in early autumn.
