  • CRIMM and the university first signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement in 1987 and plan to expand student and researcher exchanges.

On June 27, a delegation from the Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences of Poland, comprising Rector Professor Tadeusz Trziszka, Vice-Rector Professor Jozef Sowinski, and Professor Jerzy Sobota, former dean of the Faculty of Geosciences and Environment, visited Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (CRIMM) for exchanges. Professor Xie Jianguo, secretary of the institute’s Party committee, cordially received the delegation. Zhou Yun, deputy head of the science and technology development department; Xu Xiaoshu, Party branch secretary and deputy director of the Marine Institute; deputy directors Tang Hongping, Gong Dewen, and Zheng Hao; and relevant technical personnel took part in the meeting.

At the meeting, Secretary Xie warmly welcomed the delegation, introduced the basic situation of CRIMM, and reviewed the two sides’ many years of cooperation and achievements in scientific research. Noting that Poland is a country along the Belt and Road, he also proposed directions and modes for the next stage of cooperation. Rector Tadeusz Trziszka gave a detailed introduction to the university’s projects under the EU framework, “Green Valley of Food and Health” and “Food of Future,” as well as the university’s basic situation. Deputy director Zheng Hao introduced China Minmetals’ international seabed contract area, the current state of China’s ocean mining technology, and CRIMM’s progress in the field.

At the meeting, the two sides signed a strategic cooperation agreement to carry out in-depth scientific research cooperation in several areas, including slurry pipeline transport technology in ocean mining, environmental impact assessment and remediation for land-based mines, and comprehensive water pollution treatment, and they plan to further expand the forms of cooperation to include exchange studies for master’s and doctoral students and the exchange and training of researchers.

After the meeting, the Polish delegation also toured the State Key Laboratory of Deep-Sea Mineral Resources Development and Utilization Technology.

CRIMM and the Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement in 1987. Since the agreement was signed, the two sides have carried out frequent academic exchanges, which have greatly advanced CRIMM’s academic level and international academic standing in the field of slurry pipeline transport. In 2017 the two sides jointly applied to establish an international joint research center, which is currently under review.
