August 7, 2026 – Responding to the mass action carried out by residents in East Belitung Regency, the Corporate Secretary of PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk, Ruddy Nursalam, stated that the Company understands that tin mining activity is closely tied to the social and economic life of the community, particularly in the areas where the Company operates. For that reason, all parties are encouraged to prioritize open communication and constructive dialogue with all stakeholders in seeking solutions to the various dynamics that have developed.
“PT TIMAH respects the aspirations conveyed by the community. For us, communication and dialogue are the most appropriate approach to building mutual understanding and to maintaining a conducive situation in our operational areas. The Company regrets the acts of destruction that have caused losses for all of us. In response, the Company will continue its efforts and coordinate to find solutions that serve the interests of all parties in accordance with the applicable regulations,” said Ruddy.
In response to those conditions, the Company has activated its Emergency Response Plan as part of its incident-handling procedure for a force majeure situation. The steps taken include the evacuation of personnel, securing the site together with the authorities, and a phased recovery effort to ensure the safety of workers and the security of Company assets. PT TIMAH confirms that all employees are safe and that there were no fatalities in the incident.
“To date, operational activities in part of the Belitung area remain disrupted and have not returned to normal. The Company continues to evaluate conditions in the field, prioritizing safety, security, and compliance with the applicable regulations before operations can be fully restored,” Ruddy explained.
According to Ruddy, the sustainability of the tin industry requires the support of all stakeholders, including regulatory certainty and consistent governance. The Company is committed to maintaining stability and to continuing to coordinate with all stakeholders.
“PT TIMAH is committed to carrying out all of its operational activities in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations. The Company also considers that strengthening tin governance through regulation that is clear, consistent, and able to provide certainty for all business actors is one of the prerequisites for achieving a national tin governance framework that is more orderly, transparent, and sustainable,” Ruddy added.
Previously, PT TIMAH held a series of meetings with representatives of miners in East Belitung Regency to hear the various inputs conveyed. The Company has also resumed operating a number of collection stations in the Belitung area as part of its effort to support the smooth running of legal, transparent, and accountable tin ore trading.
“PT TIMAH hopes that all parties can maintain a conducive environment. Let us continue to strengthen synergy in building tin governance that provides legal certainty and business certainty,” Ruddy concluded.
