- TMC and partner PAMCO produced about 500 tonnes of high-temperature calcine in the first phase of a commercial-scale campaign to process a 2,000 tonne sample of polymetallic nodules.
- The processing took place at PAMCO’s Rotary Kiln Electric-Arc Furnace facility in Hachinohe, Japan.
- It marks a world-first for commercial-scale processing of deep-sea nodules.
- The calcine will be transferred in the coming months to PAMCO’s demonstration smelting facility to be smelted into a high-grade nickel-copper-cobalt alloy and manganese silicate.
