Chatham Rock Phosphate Joins World Ocean Council (woc)

Chatham Rock Phosphate Ltd. has joined the World Ocean Council.

Chatham Rock Phosphate is building on its commitment to responsible marine mining by joining the World Ocean Council (WOC), the international business leadership alliance for corporate ocean responsibility.

Based in New Zealand, Chatham Rock Phosphate aims to be the premier supplier of direct application phosphate to the global agricultural sector, in support of sustainable farming and agricultural practices.

Chris Castle, Chatham Rock Phosphate chief executive officer, stated: “Key minerals such as phosphate are critical to sustainable development. Marine sources for these minerals will play an increasingly important role as terrestrial sources become depleted and the procedures and technology for responsible extraction are developed. The WOC provides a unique global industry platform for responsible marine mining operators to collaborate and to engage with other ocean industries and stakeholders on responsible use of ocean resources.”

Chatham Rock Phosphate is working to maintain its involvement at the forefront of the marine minerals sector to leverage its expertise as a project pioneer as it develops a pathway for phosphate products for the agricultural and retail sectors.

About Chatham Rock Phosphate Ltd.

Chatham Rock Phosphate is the custodian of New Zealand’s only material resource of ultralow cadmium, environmentally friendly pastoral phosphate fertilizer. The company’s key role is connecting the resource with those who need it.

Using this phosphate will support sustainable farming practices, including healthier soil profiles and reduced accumulation of the heavy metal cadmium, reducing carbon emissions and dramatically lowering runoff to waterways and shrinking fertilizer needs over time.
