  • Ms. Karina Melias Astriandhita of Indonesia and Mr. Mohamed Saad Gaballah Awad of Egypt completed the IOM training programme in Szczecin, Poland, in October 2018.
  • The programme’s first stage ran four weeks and covered marine geology and environmental research, including sediment sampling, at the University of Szczecin and West Pomeranian Technological University.
  • The second stage ran two weeks at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague, covering laboratory analysis and metallurgical processing of polymetallic nodules, and included a visit to the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade.
  • Total tuition time was 126 hours, after which IOM Director General Dr. Tomasz Abramowski awarded both trainees Certificates of the Fulfilment of the IOM Training Program.

Szczecin, Poland (18 October 2018)  Last week two trainees of International Seabed Authority completed training program prepared by the IOM. Ms. Karina Melias Astriandhita of Indonesia and Mr. Mohamed Saad Gaballah Awad of Egypt received a comprehensive multidisciplinary training in the field of polymetallic nodules project including methods of sea exploration, marine geology, environmental research and metallurgical processing. The training program was divided into two stages:

– Lectures and practices in marine geology and environmental research (including sediment sampling) in Natural Sciences Education and Research Centre, University of Szczecin and lectures and practices in Department of Geotechnical Engineering, West Pomeranian Technological University in Szczecin (four weeks)

Trainees came to visit Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic.

– Laboratory work and scientific techniques for polymetallic nodules analysis and metallurgical processing in University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague, Czech Republic (two weeks). In the end of the second stage, the participants visited the Department of the Raw Material Policy of Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, where they shared their experience from the Prague’s part of the training.

Totally, tuition time took 126 hours. Finally, upon the submission of the final reports, IOM’s Director General Dr. Tomasz Abramowski awarded trainees Certificates of the Fulfilment of the IOM Training Program.
