On April 7, the signing ceremony for a tripartite cooperation agreement on the international seabed contract area among China Minmetals Corporation, the Second Institute of Oceanography of the State Oceanic Administration, and the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey was held in Beijing. The ceremony was presided over by Liu Ningwu, head of the group company’s science and technology management department. Feng Guiquan, member of the group company’s Party leadership group and deputy general manager, signed the tripartite cooperation agreement on behalf of the group with academician Li Jiabiao, director of the Second Institute of Oceanography, and Wen Ning, Party secretary of the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey. As the internal unit with primary responsibility for the group company’s contract-area tasks, Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (CRIMM), represented by general manager Yang Yingliang, signed the contract area’s 2017 exploration task contracts with the Second Institute of Oceanography and the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey respectively.
Before the signing ceremony, the participants held talks. Feng Guiquan first introduced the basic situation of China Minmetals and thanked the Second Institute of Oceanography and the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey for their support in China Minmetals’ application for, and successful acquisition of, its international seabed contract area. With the support of the Second Institute of Oceanography, the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey, and other units, China Minmetals is fully confident of completing the exploration contract tasks for the international seabed contract area. On the basis of strengthening cooperation with technical forces at home and abroad, China Minmetals will advance international seabed mineral resources from exploration toward development. Director Li Jiabiao and Party Secretary Wen Ning introduced the basic situations of the Second Institute of Oceanography and the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey respectively. They said they would continue as always to support China Minmetals in executing its international seabed contract, give full play to their respective strengths, and promote progress in the technology and equipment for ocean mineral resource exploration and development, and they hoped to further strengthen comprehensive cooperation with China Minmetals in the countries and sea areas along the Maritime Silk Road.
General manager Yang Yingliang said that, as the internal unit responsible for the group company’s contract-area exploration tasks, and with the leadership and support of the group company and the strong assistance of fellow units, CRIMM has organized and completed a great deal of work on the contract-area application, its defense, and preparations for the exploration tasks. In the future execution of the contract-area exploration tasks, CRIMM hopes to continue receiving the strong support of the Second Institute of Oceanography and the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey so as to complete the exploration tasks smoothly, and at the same time to carry out deeper cooperation in ocean exploration, deep-sea equipment, and other areas.
CRIMM deputy general manager and chief financial officer Zhang Baozhong, science and technology development department deputy head Zhou Yun, and Marine Institute director assistant Zeng Xuan attended the ceremony.
