On the afternoon of November 4, Zhang Baozhong, deputy general manager and chief financial officer of Changsha Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (CRIMM), met with academician Li Jiabiao, director of the Second Institute of Oceanography of the State Oceanic Administration, and his delegation. The two sides held in-depth exchanges on deepening business cooperation in seabed mineral resource exploration.

Deputy general manager Zhang Baozhong first extended a warm welcome to Director Li Jiabiao and his delegation, and thanked the Second Institute of Oceanography for the support it provided during China Minmetals’ application for an international seabed contract area. He noted that the Second Institute of Oceanography is a comprehensive ocean research institution with a full range of disciplines, strong scientific and technological capabilities, and advanced equipment; it has produced a series of major innovative achievements and is a mainstay of China’s ocean research. CRIMM has more than 30 years of accumulated ocean mining technology and the country’s only State Key Laboratory of Deep-Sea Mineral Resources Development and Utilization Technology. He expressed the hope that the two sides would draw on both platforms, give full play to their respective strengths, actively expand the space for cooperation, and jointly develop deep-sea mineral resources development and utilization technology.

Director Li Jiabiao said that the Second Institute of Oceanography is mainly engaged in scientific research on China’s seas, the world’s oceans, and the polar seas, as well as the research, development, and application of high technologies for marine environment and resource detection and survey.
