With regard to the Sunda Shelf diamond project bulk sample No. 2, the program for the recovery of a 5000 cubic metre bulk sample is proceeding with the digging of the tailings pond completed and the ramp down to the gravel horizon, approximately 30m below the seabed, nearing completion. When completed, digging and processing of gravels will commence.
The bulk sample is to be excavated in the North Channel, 1500m offshore, in a zone of high rutile concentration, which project manager and joint venture partner, Trans Hex International and Ocean Resources, believes to be a good indicator for diamonds.
Progress has been hindered by mechanical problems with the dredge and digging difficulties within a 2m to 7m thick clay horizon overlaying the sample area. It is now anticipated that the program will be completed during the first half of November.
Ocean Resources remains optimistic that the sample will yield gem quality diamonds.
