Namibian Minerals (Namco) has appointed Bruce Evans as chief operating officer, effective immediately.
Since 1988, Mr. Evans has been a principal international consultant with Steffen, Robertson and Kirsten (SRK), a mining consulting group with offices in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, South Africa, South America, and Australia. Mr. Evans has led a consulting team advising Namco since 1995, playing a key role in independently auditing Namco’s operations, in particular the review of feasibility studies for its seabed crawler mining technology.
Before co-founding SRK’s U.K. practice, Mr. Evans has held a number of senior positions including chief executive of the gold and uranium division of Gencor, now Billiton, from 1984 to 1998, where he was responsible for 12 mines producing 100 tonnes of gold per year with 100,000 employees; group senior manager of the gold and uranium division of Gencor from 1982 to 1984; senior manager of Union Corporation from 1979 to 1982; and mine manager for Richards Bay Minerals from 1976 to 1978. From 1964 to 1978 he held various positions in mine management and development.
“With his extensive experience in the mining industry, Bruce Evans makes an outstanding addition to our team,” said chairman and chief executive officer, Alastair Holberton. “His leadership and management skills will add further value to Namco’s mining operations and exploration program as we complete the expansion to a much larger five-vessel fleet.”
