Chinese Contractors Jointly Hold Side Event During Part 2 of the Council Meeting of the ISA’s 29th Session

On July 20 local time, the China Ocean Mineral Resources Research and Development Association (COMRA), China Minmetals Corporation and Beijing Pioneer Hi-Tech Development Corporation jointly held a side event titled “Activities of Chinese Contractors in the International Seabed: Status and Future” during the second part of the Council meeting of the 29th session of the International Seabed Authority, convened in Kingston, Jamaica. The event presented the progress Chinese contractors have made in international seabed resource exploration, environmental baseline studies, mining technology development, training for personnel from developing countries and international cooperation. ISA Secretary-General Michael Lodge, senior secretariat officials and more than 70 delegates attending the ISA’s 29th session took part in the side event.

Participants praised the work done by the Chinese contractors and congratulated them on their achievements. The side event demonstrated to the international community the Chinese contractors’ sincerity in fulfilling their contractor obligations, conveyed their willingness to promote the protection and sustainable use of the deep ocean for the common benefit of all humanity, and showcased their contributions to capacity building in developing countries, achieving good results.
