On April 15, 2022, the opening ceremony of the online training programme under the China Ocean Mineral Resources Research and Development Association (COMRA) polymetallic sulphide exploration contract was held online. Representatives of the COMRA office and the National Deep Sea Center attended the ceremony along with four international trainees from Kiribati, Ghana, Pakistan and Egypt. The training working group briefed the trainees on the course content, schedule, assessment requirements and other arrangements, and the international trainees introduced themselves and interacted with each other.
Over the following four months, the four international trainees, organized by the National Deep Sea Center, will take video courses and take part in online exchange activities covering international deep-sea law and policy, polymetallic sulphide resource exploration and development, the deep-sea environment and ecosystems, and deep-sea technology and equipment.
This is the second international training class run by the National Deep Sea Center, following the training under COMRA’s polymetallic nodule exploration contract, and is presented as a further contribution to China’s fulfilment of its obligations as a contractor holding exploration contracts in the international seabed area.
