- CSA Ocean Sciences deployed three moorings in the NORI exploration area to track currents, temperature and other water conditions, with the longest running 4,000 meters and the others 500 meters and 32 meters.
- The team collected water samples down to about 4,200 meters using a 24-bottle sampling carousel, alongside CTD, pH, redox, current and acoustic sensor data and sediment traps to measure particle flux.
- Data collected will feed a model used to inform the environmental impact assessment required before any mining activity begins within a block.
- A seven-person crew carried out the deployment, the result of planning that began in April 2019.
